My book is titled “The Fight for Immortality.” This novel is a Sci-Fi story and not a venture into heaven or hell or any other classic religious view of immortality. It involves no specific religion and only mentions a religious denomination in passing. Primarily due to where that section of the story takes place. The story itself is almost completely lacking in opinions or commentary about any religion. The immortality story line does not follow any established Earthly religious view of immortality but is my own creation.
This story is the novelization of a dream I had in 1988. The title refers to the main Sci-Fi story line – so it’s accurate. I create an interstellar culture where immortality plays an essential part. Some folks from certain religious backgrounds will find this story contradictory to their beliefs. That said, it is more than anything a story and meant to be enjoyed on its own terms and not compared or contrasted with your religious beliefs whatever they may be.
That being said…
I want say a few words about immortality in this blog. For most of us immortality is a speculative condition, something to wonder about in idle moments or stressful ones. But most of the time immortality has no real impact on day to day life. If immortality was real, and you knew it, how would this influence your daily routine, how would it change major life decisions and actions? These questions have as many answers as there are people. But certainly we would be more inclined to think long term.
The central question to our self-awareness and our awareness of the environment is: at body death do we go on living or do we cease to exist? And if we do continue, what form does that living take? Ultimately as life progresses none of us can avoid these questions: the passage of time brings us face to face with whatever answers or mysteries there may be. If IMMORTALITY is real and we do live again, we don’t tend remember it well, if at all.
With all religious and scientific speculations brushed aside, some reaching the ens of life as they know it are really happy that it it all over! But others would simply like to live again, to have another go at life, to have another chance to do better. My book is closely allied to this desire and not any system of religious belief or scientific theory.
In my story I use imagination and introduce a structure of ideas (cultural practices, technologies, etc.) and extend logical consequences from this structure. Could life exist as I have imagined it? That is a question you can consider or ignore. The story is for your entertainment.
